The archives of the Bargello National Museum contain a section dedicated to donations of works of art by private individuals. The documents show that, from the very outset, the Florentine institution received donations of entire collections of various sizes and origins, such as the Carrand, the Ressman and the Franchetti collections, which laid the foundations for the heterogeneity that still characterises the Museum today. The meticulous sorting of the large number of documents prompted the creation of a user-friendly register, divided by donor’s name, year of donation, type of artwork, inventory number.
